Shah Rukh Khan is an Indian actor and film producer who works in Hindi films. Referred to in the media as the “Baadshah of Bollywood” and “King Khan”, he has appeared in more than 90 films and earned numerous accolades, including 14 Filmfare Awards.

Khan was born into a Muslim household on November 2, 1965, in New Delhi. He spent his first five years of existence in Mangalore, where Iftikhar Ahmed, his maternal grandfather, worked as the port’s chief engineer in the 1960s.

Khan’s father, Mir Taj Mohammed Khan, was a Peshawar-based supporter of the Khudai Khidmatgar, a nonviolent resistance group that fought for a unified and independent India under the leadership of Abdul Ghaffar Khan. Abdul Ghaffar Khan’s disciple Mir was a member of the Indian National Congress. He was also Shah Nawaz Khan’s nephew, a major general in the Indian National Army.
Khan’s father’s family was still residing in Peshawar’s Qissa Khwani Bazaar’s Shah Wali Qataal neighbourhood as of 2010.
Following the division of India, Mir relocated to New Delhi in 1948.
Lateef Fatima, Khan’s mother, was the granddaughter of a top government engineer. His folks got hitched in 1959. On Twitter, Khan identified himself as “half Pathan (father), half Hyderabadi (mother), and some Kashmiri (grandmother)”.
Khan claims that Mir Jan Muhammad Khan, a member of the Pashtun (Pathan) ethnic group from Afghanistan, was his paternal grandfather.

Contrary to the assertion that his grandpa was a Pashtun from Afghanistan, his paternal cousins in Peshawar later explained that the family speaks Hindko and is originally from Kashmir, where they settled in Peshawar centuries ago.
Khan was raised in New Delhi’s Rajendra Nagar neighbourhood. The family was middle class, living in rented apartments, and his father had a number of businesses, including an eatery. Khan went to St. Columba’s School in the heart of Delhi, where he excelled academically and in athletics like football and hockey, winning the school’s highest honour, the Sword of Honour. Khan initially wanted to pursue a profession in sports, but he was unable to do so due to a shoulder injury he sustained in his early years.
