An inquiry into the National Cathedral’s construction has been requested in a private members’ motion that Speaker of the House Alban Bagbin has accepted.
The motion, which was submitted by MPs from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), will enable the committee to make pertinent suggestions for the Parliament’s consideration.
A portion of the public believes that the National Cathedral project is irrelevant given Ghana’s economic difficulties, and the project has been the subject of numerous disputes and strong resistance.

Recently, Kwabena Agyapong, a former general secretary of the NPP, expressed amazement at the government’s role in building the national cathedral.
He finds it shocking that the government is determined to use state monies for the Cathedral project.
In an interview with JoyNews, Agyapong claimed that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo made no mention of the project receiving state funding.
“I’m startled by the National Cathedral’s problems. When the president said that, I assumed he was going to ask us Christians to donate since I assumed it was a private endeavor.

Christians have started constructing their own cathedrals. Thus, I believe that if the president requests donations from us Christians, we may do so without having to deplete our finances.
With the challenges we are dealing with, we are already under enough stress, he remarked.
According to Kwabena Agyapong, there should be a National Cathedral in the same way that there is a National Mosque, but Christians should support the Cathedral in the same way that Muslims fund the Mosque.
