Try to aim for Tier S, they are very easy to get, and at worst some Tier A, which are also pretty good.
Tier S
Tier S are the best characters of the game, really OP:

About Vahn’s Quest Tier List
Characters in Vahn’s Quest come in three grades: “5 Star as Tier S”, “4 Star as Tier A”, and “3 Star as Tier B”. “3 Star as Tier B” characters are simple to acquire and develop, although the majority are weak. Characters with a “5 Star as Tier S” rating are highly desirable but difficult to find. While some “4 Star as Tier A” characters are just as effective as “5 Star as Tier S” characters, not all of them are.
The game’s characters each have their own set of special active and passive skills. You need to become familiar with each player’s skill kit in order to make the most of your team. To access the hero collecting screen from the gameplay screen, tap the book symbol on the right side. To view a character’s skill, star rating, and role, tap on them.
